GLOW Scholarship Opportunities
2024 GLOW - San Diego Glycobiology Symposium Scholarship (SDGS)

If you have any questions about GLOW scholarships, please contact Jonathan Vega at jov014@health.ucsd.edu

We are pleased to announce the GLOW - UC Glycosciences Consortium for Women’s Health, co-led by Dr. Amanda Lewis, Dr. Carlito Lebrilla (UCD), and Dr. Susan Fisher will sponsor up to 12 scholars across the UC system who are working at the interface of glycosciences and women’s health or sex/gender difference research and are planning to attend the upcoming San Diego Glycobiology Symposium 2024.
Research Criteria:

  • Glycans and their functions in the female urogenital system. Examples include aspects of human reproduction, infectious agents/microbes of the placenta, vagina, uterus, fetus, urinary tract.

  • Glycans and their biology at the interfaces between mother and infant/fetus and their potential use in other settings. This might include such as studies of milk oligosaccharides, functions of placentally-derived glycans during pregnancy, fetal tolerance

  • Sex/gender differences and conditions that impact women uniquely, like pelvic floor disorders, cancers and other conditions of female-specific anatomy, but also other conditions such as Alzheimers, autoimmune diseases etc etc.

  • Research on conditions that display sex differences may be proposed even if you are not specifically studying that aspect, but you must describe the sex difference and put it into the context of your work.

Please also let us know if you have aspiring interests in areas of women’s health, even if you don’t work this area yet. We want to support you too
