The members of the GRTC hail from the University of California campuses (UC San Diego, Irvine, Berkeley, San Francisco, Los Angeles), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), the Scripps Institute of Oceanography (SIO), the Salk Institute for Biological Sciences (Salk Institute), The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), Sanford Burnham Prebys (SBP), La Jolla Institute (LJI), Children's Hospital of Orange County (OC), Stanford University, San Francisco State University, and the California Institute of Technology (CalTech).
